It can be a difficult decision where to go if you look for the perfect destination for your romantic getaway. Whether you celebrate your birthday, take a honeymoon, or maybe just seek a getaway constructed for two, a romantic journey to 10 places fills your days with love.
Burlington, Vermont
A dream for every outdoor lover, Burlington (and Vermont in general). See the several ski resorts in the region if you are on a winter trip or wander Mount Philo in the summer (see the panorama below)
Not outside? Not outside? No difficulty. Take a tour of the factory of Ben and Jerry or Teddy Bear Company in Vermont. Take your Citizen Cider refreshing drink. Take a look at Church Street shops and restaurants. There are endless possibilities.
How to get there: International Airport Burlington (BTV); International Airport of Montreal- Trudeau (YUL) at 103 miles
Hocking Hills State Park is a paradise for nature lovers in the south of Columbus. The park is filled with paths that lead you to caves, waterfalls, and scenic views. I liked that the walking paths range from easy to difficult, so we could choose from lots of diversity.
I could be a bit biased on Hocking Hills since I'm from Ohio. Last summer, Sam and I had a great weekend, and this year I definitely want to go back. We were in the cabin with all the amenities you might think about – including a whirlpool on the back deck! There are plenty of traditional camping sites if you want to be more immersed in nature. For any couple who loves the outdoor life, Hocking Hills would make a fantastic luncheon place. So you know it's good Lucy gave it a sign of approval.
How to go: International Airport of John Glenn Columbus (CMH), 62 km away.
Jackson, Wyoming
There are tons of areas for skiing and walking. I'd also suggest that you check out a white water rafting tour if you're up for it. I was nervous about rafting, really, but it was very fun and a highlight of the journey!
Jackson Hole is filled with other fun things if outdoor sports are not your business. Sam and I walked the city through shops, restaurants, and bars all day long. We just came to the farmers' market on Saturday and got some delicious local snacks from the Farmers' Market in the town square. Jackson Hole is also an excellent place to visit the local national parks. A 25-minute drive from Grand Teton National Park and only about an hour and a half from Yellowstone's South Entrance.
Continue to Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), 283 miles away from Jackson Hole Airport (JAC).
Austin, Texas
Austin listed our possible honeymoon spots quite high. I'm really excited to bring him because I know it's right up his alley. You know Austin's the perfect combo of charm and peculiarity for the south.
One of Austin's advantages is that you will never run out of things. Live Music Capital of the World was called Austin and this is true! You can choose from tons of live music venues every night - free! One of my favorites in Austin is to relax on a terrace with an ice-cold and live music drink.
If your thing is not music, don't be afraid. Tons of other events include art, shopping, and bat observation (hardly!). Take a look here for some activities. If you want to have a break from city life then Lake Travis might be checked out during the day. Do you feel a longer adventure? It's only over an hour from San Antonio by car!
How to get there: International Airport of Austin-Bergstrom (AUS)
Key Largo
Key West immediately comes to mind, when most people think of Florida Keys. This is the first thing that sprang up in my mind, too, I'll admit. I discovered the Key Largo, then. My favorite thing about Key Largo is that it is only an hour's drive from Miami (more than three hours from Key West).
Key Largo is as beautiful as any of the keys even though it is easy to reach. If you want a relaxing beach holiday with water that is as clear as the Caribbean, don't look anymore. Any beach lover would like to relax with the water during the day. Check out snorkeling trips – some of the best snorkeling of Keys are off the coast of Key Largo! You're more an adventure searcher than a sun goddess!
How to get there: International Airport is 55 miles from the hotel.
Asheville, North Carolina
If you are interested in Hocking Hills, but you are looking somewhere a bit more populated, please say hi to Asheville. By reserving a luxury cabin at the outskirts of the city while still having access to everything Asheville can easily get the cozy, wood dying atmosphere.
You will love Asheville if you are a craft beer or cider fan. Tons of brasseries and bars are easily accessible on foot. Several brasserie walking tours are also available. The many galleries around the area also love by art lovers.
And Asheville's largest attraction? Biltmore Estates. I could spend Biltmore days easily.Biltmore is the biggest home in America, built-in in 1895 by George Vanderbilt. The massive home, conserved and filled with original furnishings, can be visited. Located on 8,000 acres, the property now has restaurants, shopping, and a winery. Talk about romantic! Talk about romantic!
How to get there: Airport of Asheville (AVL); International Airport Charlotte Douglas (CLT) at 119 miles.
Is it romantic than Charleston? No, I don't think it does. I don't think it does. On the lawns of beautiful mansions—I want I was right now! The giant oaks with Spanish moose.
Charleston is great for every buff of history. Take a ride through the water of the Battery and see Fort Sumter, the place where the Civil War began. I suggest you take a carriage ride through the city to see some of the other historical areas of Charleston. It's not only romantic, but you'll get so much information about the buildings that you see.
